The Meaning of Baptism!
Christianity, Daily Walk Dec 22, 2008
Last Sunday, I took the Profession of Faith in front of the whole congregation of my local Presbyterian church, to accept Lord Jesus Christ into my life, and was baptised by my minister in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as a born-again Christian.
So what does Baptism signify? The sacrament of Baptism signifies several major things for Christians, it is a sign of cleansing and remission of our sins (Acts 22:16), being regenerated by the Holy Spirit (John 3:5-8), and being buried and raised together with Christ (Romans 6:3-7, Col. 2:11-12)…etc.
To my amazement, the daily Bible verse for that morning from C.H. Spurgeon‘s “Morning and Evening” provides the most wonderful summary of the baptism service, to accept the covenant established between the Lord with us.
“Yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant.” – 2 Samuel 23:5
